God has a plan for your life and He wants to tell you all about it. I encourage you to listen for His voice everyday.
John 10:3-5 Living Bible (TLB)
3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice and come to him; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 He walks ahead of them; and they follow him, for they recognize his voice. 5 They won’t follow a stranger but will run from him, for they don’t recognize his voice.”
Jesus is our shepherd and we are His sheep. We follow Jesus and we hear and understand His voice.
John 10:14 Living Bible (TLB)
14 “I am the Good Shepherd and know my own sheep, and they know me,
John 10:27-30 Living Bible (TLB)
27 My sheep recognize my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.28 I give them eternal life and they shall never perish. No one shall snatch them away from me, 29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else, so no one can kidnap them from me. 30 I and the Father are one.”
If you have confessed Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you are His sheep and you have the ability to recognize His voice.
Now you may be saying you are not sure if you do. My advice to you is to start spending more time reading and meditating in the Bible. When you spend time in the word of God, you are spending time with Jesus because He is the word.
The Word Becomes Human
1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was already with God in the beginning.
Now look at verse 14) 14 The Word became human and lived among us. We saw his glory. It was the glory that the Father shares with his only Son, a glory full of kindness[b] and truth.
The word was Jesus Christ. Let's look at the same verse in the Living Bible:
John 1:14 Living Bible (TLB)
14 And Christ[a] became a human being and lived here on earth among us and was full of loving forgiveness* and truth. And some of us have seen his glory*—the glory of the only Son of the heavenly Father!*
So, Jesus is the word of God. As you spend time reading and meditating on the scriptures you will become more familiar with Jesus and when He speaks to you by the Holy Spirit you will recognize His voice.
It's important for you to recognize His voice because He desires to lead you in your every day life. He has a plan (Jeremiah 29:11).
You have decisions to make. You have goals, desires, and a mission in this life. You want to live a life that is pleasing to God. These are reasons for you to listen for His voice and obey what you hear.
Psalm 25:14 Amplified Bible (AMP)
The secret [of the wise counsel] of the Lord is for those who fear Him, And He will let them know His covenant and reveal to them [through His word] its [deep, inner] meaning.
Jesus loves you and He desires to provide wise counsel to you through His word, both written word and spoken word.
God speaks to you in various ways as well. Look at Hebrews 1:1

1 Long ago God spoke in many different ways to our fathers through the prophets, in visions, dreams, and even face to face,[a] telling them little by little about his plans.
You are a child of God and He has a plan for life and He will let you in on it. Just know that He desires to speak to you, be it by the written word, spoken word,or through visions and dreams. I recommend that you write down and journal everything He says and reveals to you.
